How we handle your Zakat
Eligible recipients only
Zakat reaches the categories of recipient defined in Islamic guidance — the poor, the needy, those in debt, and the wayfarer.
Tracked as restricted funds
Recorded separately from general donations and reported separately. Zakat is never pooled with unrestricted giving.
Nothing to administration
No part of your Zakat pays for salaries, offices or overheads. Shaan Welfare charges no platform fee on any gift.
Funds are collected and distributed in accordance with Shariah. If you have a question about how your Zakat will be used, message us on WhatsApp at 0334-2900268 and we will answer directly.
Questions about Zakat
Who has to pay Zakat?
Every adult Muslim whose net wealth has stayed above the nisab threshold for one full lunar year. Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth that makes Zakat obligatory.
Should I use the gold or silver nisab?
Most scholars recommend silver, because the threshold is lower and therefore more people qualify to give. Using silver errs toward fulfilling the obligation rather than avoiding it. Both are offered here.
Does jewellery count?
Gold and silver jewellery is generally included at its market value, whether or not you wear it. Other jewellery — pearls, diamonds, costume pieces — is not, unless held for trade.
What about money people owe me?
Loans you reasonably expect to be repaid are included. Debts you cannot realistically recover are not.
Can my Zakat fund the Dastarkhwan?
Zakat is used only for recipients eligible under Islamic guidelines. Where the meals we serve go to eligible recipients, Zakat may fund them. It is never used for administration or overheads.
How is my Zakat tracked?
Zakat is recorded as restricted funds and reported separately from general donations, so it is never pooled with unrestricted giving.
Not sure whether Zakat applies to you? You can give Sadaqah instead — it has no threshold and no minimum.
