About Shaan Welfare Foundation

We began in the largest informal settlement in Asia. We now work across Sindh.

Orangi Town, where we are based, is the largest informal settlement in Asia — about 2.4 million people across 8,000 acres in western Karachi. Most work in the informal economy: daily labour, small trades, piecework done at home. Water is scarce. Formal services are thin.

From there we have grown into other districts of Karachi and across Sindh — free medical camps in Korangi run with Sindh Police, ration and relief wherever it is needed.

We are still not a national charity, and we do not claim to be. We run a kitchen that opens every day, a school, a madrasa, medical camps, and monthly ration for families we know by name.

Everything on this website can be checked. That is deliberate, and it is the whole point.

What we hold to

Transparency

Every figure on this site is one we can evidence. We would rather publish a small true number than a large one nobody can check.

Compassion

The Dastarkhwan has no registration, no form and no means test. Anyone who arrives is fed, whoever they are.

Accountability

We are a registered society, our registration number is on every page, and we answer questions about where money went.

Why our banners say something else

In photographs of our earlier work you will see the name Shaan Welfare Society and the registration number 1593.

That is us. The organisation was re-registered as Shaan Welfare Foundation under KAR NO 066 OF 2024-25. The work, the people and the phone numbers did not change — the same numbers on those banners are the ones on this page.

We would rather explain this than leave you wondering why a photograph and a footer disagree.

Who runs this

Anonymous charities are the ones worth worrying about. These are the people responsible for the foundation and its money.
